Days later Malik Rahim appeared on Democracy Now. Malik is one of the most moving public speakers I have ever heard; I will never forget Malik's speeches on the history of New Orleans and the story of the 2005 flood, which I listened to over and over again before traveling to New Orleans to volunteer, and, as Malik urged, "Come and see what has happened down here." I had never seen and still never have seen anything like it, in person, but the long lines of refugees streaming out of their villages, out of Goma, and out of Rutshura, now, in Eastern Congo reminds me, vividly, of New Orleans. That was criminal; it is still criminal; the ongoing rape of New Orleans is criminal, as is the ongoing rape of Congo, for Congo's vast wealth of natural resources. Go Malik!!! In Congress, you would be a voice not only for New Orleans but for Congo, for Africa. Like Cynthia McKinney, you would be a voice for both, and for all of us, whatever the shade of our skin.
