Dispite the crime it's not the baby's fault, childeren have been still-born or considerably disfigured when under some hard labours. It's unimaginable what could happen if the mother was cuffed and the child was caught behind her pelvis, mother unable to move the baby would just die.

james, let me guess, you’re not a mother or a female. perhaps you should not have a say in what happens during that process. or shall we shackle all inmates while they are taking a crap? I don’t know…closest thing I could connect it to. Also, I noticed the wording as well, it does not change anything for me. She could have committed a violent crime and been serving a long sentence.

Incarcerated women who give birth while in prison have an armed Correctional officer in their room. There is no risk of escape. A prison sentence does not equal inhumane treatment. Yes, these women have committed crimes, yet endangering the health and welfare of their babies, who committed no crime, should not happen. Being shackled during labor should not be part of a prison sentence, whatever the crime might be. We are so thankful that Governor Paterson has recognized this and has supported New York’s legislation to ban this practice.

convictded of ” non-violent” crime. Serving 15 mnths. lemme guess-drugs. a pregnant woman. What “should have been a “tender moment between mother and child”, would have been had the mother not been in prison for whatever crime she committed. whateverher crime, it was not victimless. shouldn’t we worry about protecting victims from criminals-non-violent or not? wake up.
