I live in the ninth and there are plenty of other places that are still undeveloped. It's hardly an issue here. They could swoop in now if they wanted, for 20,000 a lot. Gentrification may be bad to some but the murders have dropped in front of my house. If buying into an improving neighborhood is evil then I never knew I was so evil. We see it over and over, from New York, to Indiana, New Orleans, to the Great State of California: minority and poor people being removed, evicted, cheated out of the value of their land. Gentrification is just another jumped up word for land theft; another version of "buy low, sell high", where land is illegally, or forcibly taken, then sold to developers or well connected insiders. Developers are itching to get their hands on the 9th Ward in New Orleans--they stand to reap billions, if they can convince the feds to beef up the levees.
