Comments on: 7,000 Oakland residents face starvation and homelessness – 67 percent are Black http://sfbayview.com/2010/7000-oakland-residents-face-starvation-and-homelessness-67-percent-are-black/ Black liberation news and views Sun, 12 Feb 2012 00:57:43 +0000 hourly 1 http://wordpress.org/?v=3.3.1 By: Lena http://sfbayview.com/2010/7000-oakland-residents-face-starvation-and-homelessness-67-percent-are-black/comment-page-1/#comment-5384 Lena Wed, 24 Feb 2010 01:38:30 +0000 http://www.sfbayview.com/?p=10280#comment-5384 OMG this sounds horrible.I do think it is important to be resilient.I have read many sad stories of people who were homeless due to being unemployed,underemployed and uneducated and many of those people not only found a way out of it but some became very wealthy.If I had to offer a little advice to those people to perhaps give even the smallest glimmer of hope i'd say find a way to relocate maybe through extended family,go to the library and read books on how to make money or how to be self employed,take advantage of GED programs and community colleges.If it gets to the point where you are literally out on the streets shine shoes, go from house to house cleaning yards,offer to clean the inside of houses but be very safe by cleaning the house with another person perhaps a relative or friend,run errands for others if you have a vehicle.If all that fails i'd say go into a business and just start cleaning up from top to bottom someone will notice you and maybe they'll give you a job if they don't try it at another place but don't give up. I suggest all those that are fortunate to contact their congressman and congresswoman about this issue to help these people gain employment.
