I really like your article, but one thing I wanted to say is that the Haitian Nation did not go down on a spiral until France Imposed that beautiful debt in the mid 1820s that ruined the country's economy for a lot of years to come. In the 1810's the Northern Part of Haiti managed to make around 75% of the income that the St Domingue Colony use to make. This part of Haiti managed to this with a US boycott and without slavery. This part of Haiti managed to rebuild Cap Haitien, and build Castles and Forts throughout the country.

Did you all know that 1,500 Haitians fought in Savannah in order for American to get their indepence? Haitians have been instrumental to this country from its foundation until this day. Can they say the same?

Thanks for publishing this article. As a "white" American with an interest in Thomas Jefferson, I am grateful for the opportunity to learn more about the historic struggles of the Haitian people - whose suffering is still predominately a consequence of US policy.

a very interesting piece of history that has not been told in America, but one that the Haitians have held on throughout their history. we cannot continue to deny the the contributions and achievements that the slaves have provided for America and France. yet, we are looked at as second class by many races. this is just madness and America has got to rid itself of this kind of mentality.
