Let us not forget the Eugenics movement in the USA which removed poor girls from their families and sent them to reform schools where they were sterilized and or if found to be pregnant, were allowed to deliver,and then have their babies taken from them and sterilized.This happened to my Aunts.Seems to me an horrendous punishment for skipping school.

Sadly, adoption has become an unregulated, multi-billion dollar a year business with the focus on providing children for needy adults rather than homes for needy children. As someone who runs an NGO with a school, orphanage and medical clinic in Haiti - I can say with absolute certainty, this author has never been to Haiti and has no idea what she is reporting. Contrary to the generalization, that non profits focusing on children's needs in poor countries are run by pedophiles and are in it for $$ or to traffic children - well, I would suggest the author RESEARCH organizations working in Haiti. ALL of these agencies, at the root, are driven by money. Child Protective Services (CPS) in the United States (and in other countries) thrive and grow by taking our children. In the United States it is Social Security that pays for this. Title IV Social Security to be exact. In Michigan last year alone they took more than 19,500 children. CPS worker are undereducated, under-trained, and overworked by a system that demands more and more children for the foster care and adoption trade.
