I am absolutely astounded at all the right-wing anti-black talking heads who are spending what seems to me like many keyboard hours on this little “niche” website’s even tinier article.

Just want to let regular fans of this site (or even nonpartisans) know that one of the ways more conservative elements try to shape general discourse on social events is to organize people to scour the net commenting on stories like this. Bear in mind that it’s possible that posters like
Xander Harris (not real name, btw) are airing their opinions for more complex reasons than just to be heard.

One more comment on the prevalence of violence in and by the blasck community:

i went to a grade school where the boys were plagued by gangs and violence in their neighborhood. They would come to school with stories about who said the wrong thing to whom, and who got beat up by whom. This was a catholic school on the corner of Van Ness and Broadway, and the boys were predominantly Chinese. Right around the time the Chinese elder was beaten by two black teens, there was another beating in the San Diego area of a homeless black man by a group of asian (no mention in the article i saw of whether they were chinese) youth. Guess which story got more media play? One cannot say that there are more instances of black youth committing violent acts toward chinese if one only depends on the mainstream media for information.

I actually think there are more hate crimes on all “minorities” (including queer people and women) that are committed by whites (whites being the majority of the population and thus probably overrepresented in any statistical group). Police are striving to become more integrated, but i still see a lot of people who fit the statistical racial profile of hate criminals (also serial killers and child molesters) in the police force. Perhaps we should ask why white parents, neighbors, and friends are not stopping their white kids, neighbors, and friends from doing these terrible crimes? Perhaps we should indulge in the apocalyptic and lovely fantasy of treating the many animals from this population like the animals they are? Unfortunately, killer cops don’t get tit for tat, they get administrative leave, or at worst, lose their jobs.

NOw, finally, i ask: what does most of the stuff that’s on this comments thread have to do with the fact that someone got shot while fleeing? And for those people who insist that the evidence points to this fleeing youth shooting himself, can you see how, given the history of police killings in this country (victims predominantly black and brown, look it up), the Bayview community might be skeptical?

Since you seem to have all the answers not withstanding the facts of this case maybe you would like to explain how the situation went down. From your tone I think you imagined it this way.

A Black and a Hispanic cop are on fare evasion patrol and talking to themselves. The Hispanic cop goes, “You know who had an awesome year last year, Johannes Mehserle! He, his infant child, and all of his family got death threats, I want to have that lifestyle.”

Suddenly one of the kids they were questioning runs away and the cops are like “Hell no, not on my watch and they fire 1 shot.

Then they wait 1.9 seconds.

Then they fire another 9 shots.

But what most people don’t know is that cops now carry MAGIC BULLETS, just like the ones that killed JFK. So the department issued .40 hits the kid in the leg but as it passed through it turns into a .38, stops, turns some 90 degrees upwards and then shoots through the kids neck.

But it doesn’t stop there. Even though this is going down in a public courtyard with dozens of witness and an angry crowd has formed, threatening the officers, the cops were smart enough to carry a decoy gun and plant it on the ground.

Excellent detective work there, Miss Ricketts, but just be sure not to forget to take your meds.

I don't think this thing will work. Sounds like an apocalyptic fantasy. (Apocalypsi are revenge stories or sometimes delusions written to 'get back' at someone perceived to have caused harm.

actually, he was shot in the leg once. he bled to death from shooting himself in the neck.

so we're going to go with hearsay over forensic evidence of gunshot residue on harding's hand as well as ShotSpotter audio?

actually, a youtube video shows a paramedic in a white shirt checking harding's pulse minutes after the shooting. in all likelihood, he was already dead by that time, due to the bullet which entered his brain. the video also shows him being loaded onto a gurney even though bystanders are saying "he's dead."

well, duh. but if harding had just taken the citation, he would be alive today.

Just an opinion.

Harding was shot twice: Once in the leg by a .40 cal bullet (cop issued) and once in the neck/head with a .380 cal bullet (Not cop issued). Per coroner.

Harding also had powder burns on his hand, which indicates he fired a weapon sometime since he last washed his hands well.

Some witnesses at the scene report seeing Harding fire a weapon.

Some witnesses video taped themselves picking up a small handgun at the scene & taking the weapon away. It's on YouTube.

Yet, some continue to argue Harding was framed by police. They do this without a single witness to any of the 'framing.' They do this in spite of strong evidence to the contrary.

I won't make the connection between the conspiracy theorists & group(s) they belong to because this would be attacking the source of their argument. As in, 'They argue Harding didn't fire because they're…[add whatever affiliation]. This is NOT strong stuff logic-wise. It can be interesting though.

Sticking with the evidence, it appears Harding shot himself.

Also noting fear on Muni rides is not strictly limited to cops on Muni. In fact I think you'll find many more news stories about rider vs rider battery, which is why Muni is policed.
