The privatization of our public housing

October 19, 2013

San Francisco – The demise of the historically Black Fillmore district should have been a wake-up call for all of the residents. Snobby joggers and bikers who refuse to obey traffic signals flooded the Fillmore by the masses practically overnight. Even some of the events hosted by public schools became pricier to accommodate those with stolen privileges.

Politricktians are in bed with devilopers, selling out every piece of stolen, native land to the greediest, heartless bidder. So with the possibility of public housing becoming private, where does that leave the people who have been in this neighborhood for generations, such as my family and myself?

Out in the cold, begging the bikers with false entitlement and looking to snooty joggers for mercy and maybe the hope of THEM sharing THEIR land, which they had stolen from us and the natives, the Ohlone nation. For many of us revolutionary freedom fighters for humanity who refuse to live on our knees, this will not be the case.

As of right now, the Mayor’s Office of Housing is acting at warp speed to push through a proposal to HUD called Rental Assistance Demon-stration (RAD), which will ultimately mean the privatization of all the last shreds of public housing in San Francisco.

The Mayor’s Office and Housing Authority have been holding a series of last minute so-called “community” meetings in the public housing “projects” that will be bought and sold right from under us, claiming they will be improving our lives and communities.

This will have a direct, devastating impact on the poorest San Franciscans, the majority of us people of color who are already under attack and threat of displacement due to racist and classist housing policies and gentrifukation efforts by big businesses and corporate non-profit and for-profit housing developments moving into communities like Hunters Point, Western Addition and the Mission.

The Mayor’s Office of Housing is acting at warp speed to push through a proposal to HUD called Rental Assistance Demon-stration (RAD), which will ultimately mean the privatization of all the last shreds of public housing in San Francisco.

“They are selling public housing stock off to private investors as mortgages, which means they can’t guarantee what private investors do with their investments,” says Paul Boden of the Western Regional Advocacy Project (WRAP), who has done research on the destruction of public housing for poor peoples in the U.S. to get some truth beyond the acronyms.

This underhanded tactic would lead to an exodus through evictions and displacement of the people who have been on this Ohlone land for generations, just for the land to be stolen again. We become the victims of white supremacy and classism once again … with nowhere to go and nothing to show for “investing” in our hood after all this time.

Poor folks and those of color put your shields of “just us” on and unite, because the battle has just started.

Calling all conscious lawyers!

POOR Magazine/Prensa POBRE is putting out an urgent call to all conscious lawyers and law firms to join us in making “herstory” by representing a class of current residents of public housing units in San Francisco suing for our equity. This is meant to change the conversation about historical and current examples of gentrification, displacement and “Negro removal” that have happened for generations to our poor, Black and Brown communities and result in the poverty, instability and genocide of our communities of color.

  1. HELP ME PLEASE

I am a public housing disability resident going threw Discrimination & Retaliation during this New Transition from Public housing to John Stewart Co. my new land lord.
My Reasonable Accommodation for my relocation move was Denied last year by SFHA (San Francisco Housing Authority) and John Stewart Co. Before Phase I was built. They said "NO" to my Reasonable Accommodation then said I have to wait for my Lottery number.
I submitted by walking in and handed my complaint to HUD I also mailed in another complaint last year and HUD ignore me. Im tired of HUD cover up with SFHA and so many more complaints this year.
HUD refuse to talk to me when in there policy they are suppose to communicate with people with Disability and they supose to respond to a complaint with in 30 days but they ignore my complaints and Now I SUFFER. HUD said if HUD dont step in the Violation continues.

Now this year as my Lottery number is called and I signed lease with John Stewart Co. all of a sudden SFHA took away my Live in aid room which I had for years. I wrote a letter demanding investigation and why they never contact me if they needed more doctors or talk to me about taking away my Live in Care.
I was never told of any appeals again but I read in San Francisco Authority Policy that they are suppose to inform me of Appeals if I was Denied for anything. Im tired of SFHA always taking advantage of my disability thinking Im a Stupid. Last year they try to evict me 2 times for no reason but I seek legal help.
As my rights continue to be violated and I sent out many more complaint to SFHA, John Stewart Co. HUD, Mayor office of Housing, Mayor Edd Lee, Bevan Dufty ect.. and demanded an Investigation with My RELOCATION MOVE everybody still Ignore me.
"MY OWN LAND LORD REFUSE to TALK to ME".
What am I supose to do if nobody talk to me. Till this day my own Case management (YMCA) who refuse to help me during my Relocation Move, ignore all my emails. They refuse to send me any letter of were I stand if my Lottery number #50 is long passed.
Im left in the Dark and im going threw Mental anguish and other issues as a Disability person.
I been doing Research and I find out.
Jack D Gardner of John Stewart Co. is on Board of Director of the YMCA and thats why My case management of the YMCA who is payed to be in my community to make sure my Relocation Move is Smooth but it has been nothing but HELL and I have so many emails to my own case management who refuse to respond to me.
I find out that Jack D. Gardner is CEO and registered agent for couple of other Low Income Housing business who are all members of each other and John Stewart Co.
Is he taking over Bay View Hunters Point. I find out now JOHN K STEWART chairman of John Stewart Co. work for and with HUD. As I read John Stewarts co. website all the property Staff management worked with HUD. Is that why John Stewart co. has made violation and continue there behavior because there Connection with HUD.
I will never get Justice because nobody can't mess with HUD and Mayor Office of Housing. They like to keep funding Agency but refuse to look into the many violation I reported to them with these Agency. They want me to kill myself or go crazy and get lock up or make me go homeless or move away out of san francisco.

I have made many other research and found out many other criminal acts with SFHA and now the
,,Bayview Police Department who does not put in there News Letter incidents like killing and shooting that happen on public housing property but they post every auto theft and burglery with dates.
Is it so HUD and SFHA dont look into why there so many crimes going on in my community were I don't grow and live in fear. We had killing and shooting but its not in the Bayview Police News letter they refuse to call me back.
    I need every help 415-678-5055
