Job Announcement: Greenaction seeks California Environmental-Climate Justice Community Organizer & Policy Advocate

Greenaction for Health and Environmental Justice seeks to hire a full time, English/Spanish bilingual and experienced community organizer and policy advocate to work with communities across California impacted by pollution, climate change, environmental racism and injustice.

The organizer will be based in our San Francisco office or potentially in Fresno. S/he will work with Greenaction’s staff to educate, organize and mobilize residents and allies in urban, rural and indigenous communities in environmental and climate justice campaigns across the State of California to stop and reduce pollution, promote healthy, sustainable and just solutions, and advocate for policy changes on the local, regional and state levels to stop environmental racism and injustice. Immediate priority focus will be in the San Francisco Bay Area, San Joaquin Valley (including Kettleman City), Imperial Valley, and Salinas Valley.

Job responsibilities:

  • Community organizing, building strong and diverse alliances, organizing actions
  • Submitting written and oral comments and testifying at public meetings and government hearings
  • Organizing and conducting community and youth Environmental/Climate Justice Leadership Academies
  • Engaging in local, regional and state policy advocacy/coalition work
  • Using social media and mainstream media to inform, mobilize and advocate

 Qualifications:

  • At least two years minimum of community organizing or equivalent experience
  • Strong writing, speaking, computer and social media skills
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish)
  • Willingness to travel, and has valid driver’s license
  • Ability to work with and inspire diverse communities and age groups
  • Highly motivated with a demonstrated commitment to social and environmental justice
  • Willing to work flexible hours including some evenings and weekends
  • Leadership skills or demonstrated leadership potential
  • Ability to work in fast-paced environment

Salary: annual salary of $50,000 plus benefits
