Another fascist acquitted: Rittenhouse verdict sparks outrage

The stench of rot will continue to emit from the genocidal acts of racist, capitalist, white pathology and President Biden’s apology, until we say “NO”!

Salute to Sitawa: ‘That Brotha still stands strong, unbroken!’

Ifoma Modibo Kambon pays tribute to Hunger Strikes’ unbroken lion, visionary and quintessential human, Sitawa Nantambu Jamaa.

A light at the end of the tunnel for Kevin Cooper

With determination, commitment and love, Kevin Cooper continues to fight for exoneration and freedom from oppression for himself and all who suffer the pain of the whip.

Ronnie Goodman 1960-2020

Another star shines in the night sky. Ronnie Goodman passed away in early August this year. He died on the street, just after his 60th birthday, on the same corner where he’d been living for more than a year. We stood around waiting for the medical examiner to come and take him. The cops had put a sheet over him.

I Sing the Song of the Black Man

I sing the song of the Black Man --- The Eternal Black Man --- The uncreated, unborn, everlasting --- Alpha and Omega Man --- The Afrikan, the Indian, the Mexican and the CaucAsian --- I am that I am --- I am all men in different variations --- The tallest and the shortest man --- The thinnest and the broadest man --- I am the bass, the baritone and the soprano man --- My range covers the whole spectrum --- From the bottom to the top of man --- I am the Huemanitarian --- From which all men get their color and hue --- Of all the carbon copies --- I am the Original Man --- The origin of man ---

We don’t heel, we kneel!

What Colin Kaepemick has done is not only courageous but long overdue. The game plan, henceforth, should be to turn that momentum into a nationwide movement. Yes, the best way to show solidarity and support for Colin Kaepemick is to emulate his heroic act. Stand for something bigger than “self.” You can accomplish this by taking a knee. Let’s see who has the heart, character and courage to kneel for change.

Is it illegal to be Black in America?

Sometime in the early 19th century, former United States President Thomas Jefferson stated, “Unchecked power twisted white men’s characters.” Since he was a slave owner and an oppressor, he should know what he speaks about! Here in the early 21st century, it still seems that within the hands of America’s criminal justice system as a whole, unchecked power has indeed “twisted” certain white people’s characters.

‘Between Me and the World,’ M1’s new album

M1 of the revolutionary hip hop empire Dead Prez has done it again with some conscious and political lyrics to feed the soul of the people. “Between Me and the World” is produced by none other than the talented Italian producer Bonnot and is filled with an array of political soul food, which will keep you full from start to finish. M1 begins the album with a fire song titled, “Number One with a Bullet,” featuring Prodigy.

Serena Williams is today’s Muhammad Ali

Serena Williams just won her 21st Grand Slam. That’s the same number every other active women’s player has collected combined. In her last 28 matches, she is 28-0, and at the US Open this August, Ms. Williams will be favored to win the sport’s first calendar Grand Slam since Steffi Graf did it 27 years ago. At 33, Williams actually seems to be gaining strength. As a political symbol and an athletic powerhouse, Serena Williams is ‘the greatest’ in her sport.

The voice of a slave who is not afraid to speak...

When I arrived at Childersburg Community Work Center on Oct. 25, 2013, I did so with one of the worst cases of ringworm any of the medical staff here or at St. Clair had ever seen. How that came to be I will explain later. It didn’t take long for me to see that I was at a very nasty and unconstitutional facility, and on Nov. 19, 2013, I filed a formal complaint to the U.S. Department of Justice and the State Fire Marshall.

Jasper, Texas: Feds to investigate death of Black dad whose mutilation...

Alfred Wright was a 28-year-old physical therapist, a “man of great faith,” and father of three sons. He went missing for 18 days. He was found by volunteers and his father, stripped down to his shorts and one sock, with his throat cleanly slit and one ear missing. The police recorded the cause of death as “accidental drug overdose.” Alfred Wright was also a Black man married to a pretty white woman … in small-town Texas.

Life means guilt to a Black Man

Life. What does it mean? A simple question maybe you can answer. If you’re White, i can’t answer. Now I’m ignorant. Why? Because I’m Black, knowing this five letter word is the definition of struggle. Black hoody and a bag of skittles will get you killed. Being in the wrong neighborhood will get you beaten half to death. By the ones protecting and serving.

‘12 Years a Slave’

“12 Years a Slave” affected me differently than Quentin Tarantino’s “Django,” which in its caricature style held me spellbound or suspended in a place of imaginative wonder – the Black man was going to win and get the girl too in the end. “Twelve Years” moved slowly and by the time Northup’s ordeal ends we are thankful yet exhausted. I saw the film alone. I think it’s the kind of journey one should invite a companion on.

Heightened security: White Citizens Council bans popular KPFA host JR Valrey...

Who is this terrorist, this big bad JR Valrey who poses some sort of threat to the whole Pacifica network of five major radio stations around the country? First, he’s my friend and comrade at the Bay View, where we’ve worked together for over a dozen years, all his adult life. JR is our associate editor. During the same period, he’s also volunteered at KPFA radio, where his hard and highly acclaimed work finally won him a prime time show – Wednesdays at 8-9 a.m. – starting in May 2011. Immediately, listeners flocked to KPFA to hear this exciting new show.

The Texas Department of Cowboy Justice: A case of lawless law...

It’s been made quite clear that I’m here in Texas in direct response to my having brought undesired public scrutiny to Oregon’s and Virginia’s prisons. This is an account of what I’ve experienced and witnessed in just a couple of weeks here, which can only be described as Cowboy Justice – as lawless as the Wild West. It is also an appeal to public support and activism.

Black male objectification in the media wit’ visual artist Ajuan Mance

I met Ajuan Mance at a function at the San Francisco Main Library, where she had a table displaying her sketches of the many faces of Black men. She was protesting the objectification of the Black male image in the media, while at the same time capturing the natural wild beauty of the Black man. Ajuan’s elegant pen work is second to none. Check this interesting local artist out in her own words ...

Living to fulfill my dream

Growing up in San Francisco’s Sunnydale public housing as a young Black man, I often wondered whether I would live to see the age of 21. When I was 15 years old, my cousin was murdered two days after his 19th birthday. In addition, a number of my friends were gunned down before the ages of 21. Many others went to jail. My life seems like a dream come true. Students Rising Above was key to my success.

Enlightened

The Bay View helps one keep in touch with the struggle, today and historically – uplifting and empowering our people. Salutations to those active in the struggle and to those behind the walls pushing the struggle, because it may very well be twice as hard, due to the physical and mental restraints you may endure because of your political, revolutionary endeavors. Stay strong, keep striving, never give up hope.

Bring JR back to KPFA now!

For the second week in a row, one of the largest audiences for any show on KPFA was disappointed not to hear the People’s Minister of Information JR Valrey and his Block Report on the air Wednesday at 8 a.m. Instead we heard an announcement by interim general manager Andrew Phillips that JR has been suspended. Getting punished for doing “too well” happens to Black folks much too often. Sign the two petitions to end the suspension of JR Valrey from KPFA and attend the Town Hall Meeting, Thursday, April 11, 6 p.m. at Laney College. This story is constantly being updated with new signatures and comments.

Mind food

No sir, they don’t want another Jonathan Jackson. They want a masked man, later identified as a Black man. It’s more mysterious. Our enemy is serious. And I’ve been saying this before the planes came and the plain Jane drowned her kids. I awake to the sound of kids playing in the park. Gunfire interrupts their joy. The cops killed a baby holding a toy ... gun. Labeled as boy one – boy two is you, me ...
