Rob Redding fired from Green 960 AM after Bay View newspaper interview

After I interviewed program director and XM Black radio talk show host Rob Redding about the need for more Black talk radio, his show was canceled on Green 960 AM. It’s 2010, and Black people are still not “permitted” to speak our minds in the court of public opinion. Congressional Black Caucus stands up for Black press, jobs, small businesses

The 10 Black members of the powerful House Finance Committee are still being applauded this week by the Black press and Black leaders nationally for boldly boycotting a committee meeting in order to force a $4 billion allocation to benefit the Black community. They plan to escalate protests if lawmakers continue to ignore the suffering of their constituents, including advertising discrimination against Black newspapers.

As African American members of Congress, we are keenly aware of the extreme economic crisis in our communities, and we are responsible for confronting the issues threatening the survival of the people and institutions we represent. We are here to reaffirm our commitment to be forceful advocates for the voiceless, and insist that all of the resources of the government, whether they be through financial assistance programs or federal contracting, exhibit a basic fairness and equality that historically has not existed.
Black Caucus shuts down House vote, demands job creation

A bloc of African American House Democrats, angry and worried that not enough is being done about high unemployment by the administration, forced the postponement of a much-anticipated vote Thursday on comprehensive financial regulation reform. The refusal to vote was portrayed as a direct rebuke of the White House’s “lack of response to the economic situation.” “The recession has created a unique systemic risk that threatens all parts of the African-American community,” said Rep. Maxine Waters.

A time bomb is ticking, waiting to explode in communities of color across the nation. Law enforcement officers have become an occupation force. If we are to have peace, we first must place economic justice at the top of our agenda. The day Lovelle Mixon died, those close to him mentioned two explanations: He dreaded being sent back to prison yet he couldn’t find a job.
