San Quentin on trial for 29 COVID-19 deaths under its watch

Over 300 habeas corpus petitions put San Quentin and CDCr on trial charged with 'cruel and unusual punishment' by deliberate indifference resulting in 29 preventable COVID-19 deaths, record infections, unbearable fear and anxiety, with grave and unnecessary risk to staff and community.

Release – don’t transfer – 50,000 medically vulnerable people from California...

UCSF White Coats for Black Lives leaves no uncertainty how Gov. Gavin Newsom and his appointee, Kathleen Allison, are playing the shell game, toying with the lives of our elderly and infirmed caged community members, and all Californians. CDCr is exposing all of us to ravaging and likely death by COVID-19. Equally troubling is the mental torture of all prisoners, their families and loved ones.

Free them all! Rename all jails, prisons and other detention facilities...

Gov. Gavin Newsom can choose to step up to avoid the increasingly popular idea of renaming all the state prisons, jails and detention centers after him. The governor’s failure to respond to the citizens’ demands to use his authority to save lives in the face of the COVID-19 tragic impact on helpless people in cages leaves him fair game for ridicule and deep criticism.

Liberate our tortured elders

Liberate the Caged Voices, a program of California Prison Focus, provides a platform to hear directly from our caged community members, their families and loved ones to foster engagement with the local community, while exposing the truth of the toxic conditions experienced by California’s incarcerated people and the impact on their families. Adding art and culture, the idea is to build awareness, solidarity and human relationship amongst community members on both sides of the wall and take collective action.

Congressmembers to governors, ‘Decarcerate now!’

We call on you to immediately use your executive clemency and emergency powers to grant release of adults aged 50 and older, medically vulnerable populations with underlying conditions such as HIV/AIDS, diabetes, asthma, and heart disease, pregnant individuals, juveniles, and individuals with less than one year left on their sentence, irrespective of the offense and who don’t pose a reasonable risk to public safety.

To release more prisoners quickly, grant reprieves

The time to act has come. It is right now. It is tonight and tomorrow. We must demand the immediate release en masse of half of the 47,000 people inside Pennsylvania state prisons.

Bernie Sanders files bill to ban private prisons for federal, state...

Senator and Democratic presidential hopeful Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., introduced legislation on Thursday, Sept. 17, that promises to ban government contracts for privately run prisons and jails within three years. Implementing such a plan would be an ambitious effort, as it would give authorities more than 100,000 additional inmates to manage – the number held in private facilities as of 2013. The bill’s immigration provisions are similarly bold.

Political prisoners, mass incarceration and what’s possible for social movements

Since America’s MASS INCARCERATION is driven by unjust racial/class policies, then the real solution to MASS INCARCERATION is MASS “DECARCERATION.” In other words, drastic cuts to ALL prisoner’s TIME, since TIME is the currency, the legal tender, the great equalizer and righter of wrongs in prison.
