Jonestown genocide 40 years later
On Nov. 18, 1978, the world as we knew it was changed forever: 918 victims, of whom 305 were children – including 40 infants – lost their lives along with U.S. Congressman Leo Ryan and a United Press International film crew. The place was Peoples Temple in Jonestown, Guyana – that Paradise of Pain – founded and led by James Warren “Jim” Jones, forever rendered infamous by its name “Jonestown.”
Devastating report exposes unequal treatment of BP illness claims
Kenneth Feinberg, administrator of the Gulf Coast Claims Facility (GCCF) set up in the aftermath of the BP drilling disaster, has denied all damage claims for illnesses associated with exposure to the toxic BP crude oil and/or toxic chemical dispersants that were applied to the oil spill.
Proposed settlement from BP: $488,540,000
BP’s Ken Feinberg, who serves as czar for the $21 billion fund allocated to pay claims and damages to those affected by the Deepwater Horizon oil spill, has finally requested a proposal for settlement with the underserved and underrepresented in the Gulf Coast Region.
