After more than two years of a full-fledged Pentagon and NATO-led war against the North African state of Libya, the installed General National Congress regime is now requesting assistance from their neo-colonial masters. NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen indicated that the Western-backed government in Tripoli had requested assistance on security matters.

Venezuelan President Hugo Chávez condemned the killing of Libyan head of state Muammar Qaddafi as an “assassination” and “a disregard of life.” The Libyan leader was confirmed dead Oct. 20 by the rebel National Transition Council (NTC) with images of Libyan rebels displaying his corpse beamed around the world.

NATO’s decision to intervene in Libya on humanitarian grounds has become an alarming and revealing assessment of America’s understanding of war. The way the “established” media portrayed the Libyan conflict, and its subsequent reception, illustrates our society’s failure to recognize how the power dynamics of plutocratic governance shape our realities.
