African American Shakespeare Company in San Francisco is our community’s premiere showcase for classical theatre through the lens of the African American experience. Their holiday show is an anticipated family event that did not disappoint this season in its current incarnation as a musical. How often does one see “Cinderella” in splendid technicolor?

This Sunday Yoshi’s in Oakland will be hosting Richmond songstress Deja Bryson to grace the stage. From the same Bay Area as colleagues Ledisi and Keisha Cole, this niece of the great ‘80s and ‘90s crooner Peabo Bryson is set to make a name for herself without standing in anyone’s shadow. Deja Bryson is sure to bring out a crowd to see this beautiful songbird electrify the stage.

Veteran producer Jay King becomes an ‘Open Book’ with intimate new release

There’s no reason why Jay King’s new release, “Open Book,” should not be listed at the top of the Adult Contemporary charts. Jay King is a long time music veteran and a founding member of gold and platinum recording groups Timex Social Club and Club Nouveau.
