Too many parole denials at New Folsom

Those of us here at New Folsom State Prison are at odds with the overwhelming number of parole denials here, as well as overly negative board psych reports. The fact that less than 4 percent of prisoners here are paroled should speak volumes to the public as well as state legislatures who enacted SB 261 and like bills. Prisoners who have served over 25 years and have completed many rehab programs and self-help programs should be eligible for parole.

Advice for prisoners and their supporters regarding Board of Parole Hearings...

The California Board of Parole Hearings has established the Forensic Assessment Division, a staff of psychologists who conduct psychological evaluations of prisoners for Board hearings. This paper is provided to help California prisoners applying for parole understand the psychological evaluations conducted for the Board of Parole Hearings and to provide advice to them and their supporters on how to counter the psychological evaluation with letters and other materials submitted to the Board.

Gov. Brown’s parole initiative could free 30-40,000

The California State Supreme Court has re-affirmed its decision allowing Gov. Jerry Brown’s proposed initiative for changing California’s parole system to begin gathering signatures for the November ballot. The March 9 decision was the second time the court kept Brown’s crime initiative alive by rejecting a request by state prosecutors to halt signature-gathering for the measure.
