Treasure Island and Hunters Point Shipyard unfit for human habitation

June 9, 2014

Whistleblowers at the Hunters Point Shipyard told a reporter, “I wouldn’t feel comfortable living there having a yard where I could grow a garden. Absolutely not.” “I wouldn’t go there, I wouldn’t take my grandchildren there, I wouldn’t walk my dog there.” A Treasure Island whistleblower said, “My job is to protect people and the environment, and it’s just not getting done.”

Site 12, Treasure Island’s toxic bullets: Someone’s about to get hit!

April 9, 2014

Think of Treasure Island as an iridescent green glowing ghost ship whose prow divides the blue waves as it navigates San Francisco Bay waters gliding northwest under the Golden Gate Bridge. On the tidy front lawn of your market rate or low income Site 12 rental brought to you courtesy of The John Stewart Co., it is as if you are standing at the bow of the radioactive vessel as it carries its toxic contents ever forward into a stunning red-gold sunset.

City College is NOT closed

January 15, 2013

Amerikkka and the conservative bigwigs want to PRIVATIZE the school so that they can choose who gets in, what classes will be offered, when this will all take place and how it is to come about. If they are able to do that, people like me – homeless, poor, poverty-stricken single mother – will not have a ghost of a chance to better ourselves. But that’s what they want: to keep you down and out.

John Lewis slams Obama’s fiscal cliff proposal to cut Social Security

December 23, 2012

President Obama’s latest fiscal cliff proposal includes a cut to Social Security. What it means is that all current and future retirees receiving Social Security, including veterans and the disabled, would see a dramatic cut to their current and future benefits, and the cuts would compound over time. Rep. John Lewis was deeply disturbed by this proposal.

Cynthia McKinney on leadership

October 26, 2012

Recently, I had an opportunity to speak with Cynthia McKinney, and I asked her about leadership. She replied that at the local level in the Black communities, there is leadership. It no longer gets media coverage, but it is there. Real leaders are those with the courage to dissent and to resist. It is the act of resistance that transforms an elected person into a leader.

Singing in the rain: Hunters Point Shipyard enriches SF’s most powerful families

April 5, 2009

In an email to the San Francisco Bay View, Laurence Pelosi verified that he was a Lennar senior executive in March of 2004 at the time San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom, his cousin for whom he had served as mayoral campaign treasurer, had signed the Hunters Point Shipyard Conveyance Agreement at the behest of Laurence’s Aunt Nancy Pelosi, speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives.

‘Good riddance, you dog’

December 15, 2008

Standing next to his puppet, Maliki, George actually had the gall to say that the invasion and occupation of Iraq were “hard, but necessary.” I am surprised he wasn’t deluged with shoes.

Hey, Hey, Nancy!

November 4, 2008

“If we want to take this country back, Nancy Pelosi’s got to go. Hey, hey, Nancy, I sure hope Cindy [Sheehan] kicks your ass!” Courtesy of David Swanson of AfterDowningStreet.org, it’s the Cindy Sheehan for Congress song!

Bringing democracy to Amerikkka

November 3, 2008

With Black youth on the front lines this election season, along with all youth plus older Blacks and other people of color, the struggle for real democracy can finally claim victory in the U.S. Masses of new voters have registered and are already lining up to vote wherever early voting is available, as it is here in the Bay Area.

Cindy Sheehan’s progressive response to the financial crisis

November 3, 2008

I believe healthcare, housing and education are basic human rights, not privileges. Nancy Pelosi, my opponent, can come up with $850 billion when her buddies need it; now, my buddies, THE PEOPLE, need a bailout!

Cindy Sheehan speaks at Bayview Hunters Point Town Hall Meeting

October 25, 2008

Peace mom Cindy Sheehan, who has traveled the world speaking out for peace with justice, spoke to a full house of grassroots activists at the Oct. 2 Bayview Hunters Point Town Hall Meeting about her campaign to replace Nancy Pelosi in the U.S. Congress Nov. 4.

Cindy Sheehan is on the ballot!

August 9, 2008

The Cindy Sheehan campaign to replace Nancy Pelosi in Congress is offering a new vision for San Francisco and the nation. Cindy believes in peace, accountability, freedom and well being for all. She believes that war should be a last resort for defense and not the handy policy tool that it is currently being used as. She believes that healthcare is a basic right in a democratic society and should not be based on ability to pay.

No blood for oil! No blood for natural gas!

June 6, 2008

The current plan to launch yet another environmental assault on Bayview Hunters Point, with three natural gas turbine combustion power plants, and yet another at the San Francisco International Airport, was tabled for two weeks by the Board of Supervisors.

Threat to Internet radio affects local stations – don’t let it happen!

June 6, 2007

For small non-commercial radio stations across the country, the ability to stream programs on the Internet is indispensable. Instead of being limited to the wattage granted to them by the FCC, streaming on-line allows stations to reach listeners all over the world.

In the war of the super-rich on the rest of us … in San Francisco, as in New Orleans

May 19, 2006

Many of us see, within the Bayview Hunters Point district and without, strategic similarities in the wars being waged in Iraq, in New Orleans and here in our own home town.
