Bayview Hunters Point might consider investing Lennar’s “community benefits” in a scholarship fund, a community development group, and a credit union that can pool the funds with residents’ own deposits and loan them for higher education, buying or improving a home, and founding or expanding a business to residents who have long been redlined and betrayed by banks.

Does “We support our troops” mean you support the domination and murderous repression of people in Haiti, Iraq, Columbia, Guatemala etc. in order that U.S. corporations and financial firms – Wall Street thugs – can accumulate capital via controlling and exploiting the oil, gas, cobalt, tin, cotton, diamonds, coal, fruit et al of other people trapped in slums?

I am pleased to stand with my colleagues today who are outraged at Nobel Peace Laureate President Obama’s decision to wage war on Africa in Libya. At the outset, let me state that Libya is home to tens of thousands of foreign students and guest workers. The students come from Ethiopia, Eritrea and Somalia. Charles Manson cheerleader Lynette “Squeaky” Fromme walked free last week through the front doors of Fort Worth Federal Prison. Fromme attempted in 1974 to assassinate then President Gerald R. Ford. Native American spiritual leader Leonard Peltier has also served almost 35 years behind bars for a crime that has never been proven. So it would seem to be a no brainer: If you’re going to release Fromme, still a self-proclaimed Manson supporter, it’s time to free this internationally revered indigenous leader who was clearly framed by the government and then ground through the racist prison system.
