Congratulations to San Francisco NAACP honorees, ‘Red Tails’ lifts off

The Tuskegee Airmen William “Bill” Campbell San Francisco Bay Area Chapter was honored with the San Francisco NAACP Presidential Medal of Freedom Award at the San Francisco NAACP Freedom Fund Gala. “Red Tails,” the George Lucas film on the Airmen is coming out Jan. 20, 2012.
Burnett Child Development Center to be renamed Leola M. Havard Early Education School after district’s first African American female principal

The Burnett Child Development Center has been renamed in honor of the first African American woman school principal in the San Francisco Unified School District, Leola M. Havard. Community members called for a renaming of the school site due to Peter Burnett’s past political stances and support of laws which resulted in the discrimination against Blacks, Asians and Native Americans.
