On May Day, May 1, 2018, the Day of Reckoning arrived. “On behalf of named plaintiffs and thousands of other victims to be named including residents, deceased family members and unborn children, renowned civil rights attorney Charles Bonner has filed a $27 billion lawsuit for damages arising from generational threats of cancer and other incurable illnesses relating to the documented fraud perpetrated by U.S. Navy contractor Tetra Tech in assuring Hunters Point residents and the City of San Francisco that the radiated land at the Hunters Point Shipyard had been cleaned. …

My name is Felita Sample. My mysterious illnesses and my daughter LaKrista’s strange afflictions developed after we moved from San Francisco’s Tenderloin neighborhood to Treasure Island. Imagine never-ending nausea and daily dizziness. You can’t tolerate the thought of food. You override this loathing and force yourself to eat. You soon find that anything edible, including water, triggers dry heaves that wrack your chest and abdomen.

After working vigilantly to protect her kids from asbestos by moving out of an asbestos-filled home in Bayview Hunters Point onto Treasure Island, Sandy Agee found she had literally jumped from the frying pan into the fire. At this writing, Sandy and two of her children are exhibiting worrisome physical symptoms they developed only after moving to the island. Sandy’s blood tests came back positive for “thyroid problems.”

Since the early ‘90s, the Navy has been locating and “remediating” radioactive hot spots from Treasure Island. But it wasn’t until two weeks ago, Feb. 12, 2014, that Kathryn Lundgren learned of the presence of a toxic former burn pit buried next to her home. It was never revealed by Navy officials in any monthly Restoration Advisory Board (RAB) meeting.
