Mayor Breed and Kevin Durant Charity Foundation unveil newly renovated Hunters Point Youth Park

Golden State Warriors star Kevin Durant and Mayor London Breed are partnering to increase access to high-quality basketball facilities and open spaces in neighborhoods that need them most, in this case youth and their families in Bayview Hunters Point. The Oct. 23 grand re-opening of the basketball court at the Hunters Point Youth Park, which was completely transformed over a four-week period, is a gift from the Kevin Durant Charity Foundation, Good Tidings Foundation, Alaska Airlines and the San Francisco Foundation, the first of its kind led by KDCF in San Francisco.

The San Francisco Alliance of Black School Educators (SFABSE) is sponsoring the Second Annual “Black Family Cradle to College and Career Resource Fair” Saturday, Sept. 19, at San Francisco Unified School District’s Mission High School. Attendees can look forward to workshops on Early Education, STEM (Science Technology Engineering Mathematics), Discipline and Criminal Justice, College and Career, and Parent-Guardian Involvement.

Bayview Hunters Point might consider investing Lennar’s “community benefits” in a scholarship fund, a community development group, and a credit union that can pool the funds with residents’ own deposits and loan them for higher education, buying or improving a home, and founding or expanding a business to residents who have long been redlined and betrayed by banks.

The San Francisco Labor Council is asking people to say “Yes to Thousands of New Jobs at Hunters Point Shipyard” — an EPA Superfund toxic dump site. This is the key part of the ongoing plan and activities by the Lennar Corp., the Democratic Party and the City and County of San Francisco to gentrify Bayview Hunters Point, the last largely Black community in San Francisco.
