YCAT-C workers will bring their paychecks home to Bayview Hunters Point and other District 10 neighborhoods.

Yolanda’s Construction Administration & Traffic Control (YCAT-C) was awarded a contract to provide construction flagging services at the new California Pacific Medical Center (CMPC) hospital construction site at Van Ness and Geary. YCAT-C will employ 30 local citizens, primarily from San Francisco’s District 10, over the next four to five years.

YCAT-C, which is headquartered in the Bayview Hunters Point neighborhood, has recruited 75 percent of its new hires from District 10 to staff the project as part of its corporate social responsibility strategy.

“District 10 has the highest unemployment rate, yet it is the community where most of the development is taking place,” said Yolanda Jones, YCAT-C president. YCAT is committed to “reaching in” and offering District 10 residents opportunities and hope,” she said.

Jones says she is grateful to Kathleen Carroll, David Thomack and Paul Klemich of prime contractor firm HerreroBoldt for their interest in YCAT-C and hiring local residents.

The CMPC city center location is one of two new Sutter Health hospitals coming to San Francisco. The other will be located on the St. Luke’s Campus at Cesar Chavez and Valencia. Both hospitals are anticipated to open in 2019.
