Tactical targeting of iconic activist Hugo Pinell

by Brian Keith Barnett

Time and time again, those of us behind these enemy lines are forced to consciously recognize the significance of the Black August attack on one of the iconic San Quentin Six. It is no puzzle for those familiar with the tactics and practices of prisoncrats that their spin doctors, like (CDCr spokesperson) Terry Thornton, promulgate deceptions to try and conceal the fact that the End Hostilities policy instituted by prisoners has been reasonably effective.

The obvious byproduct being the collective refocusing of attention on the flawed prison system and on those who have strived to create conflicts and ethnic strife among prisoners, a plot was created in hopes to spark a statewide breakdown in the Agreement to End Hostilities.

The artist writes this dedication: “Agreement to End Hostilities: With great honor and respect to all Short Corridor Collective representatives, near and far, for having the wisdom and keen foresight to change the course for the greater good – and to all those dedicated like-minded individuals who are in the struggle to end oppression and solitary confinement – in solidarity.” – Art: Michael D. Black August is a time in which forebrothers of the struggle are revered – not to forget our sisters, yet my focus in this article is on the brothers behind these enemy lines who still languish and are targeted by prisoncrats as Brother Hugo (Yogi) Pinell was on Aug. 12, 2015 – this brother being one of the San Quentin Six and part of George Jackson’s inner circle.

It should be noted that prisoncrats fought very hard to keep Yogi confined under the atrocious conditions of the Pelican Bay SHU and lost. This fact was essentially cause for a now plot to murder someone of significance to reignite ethnic strife among prisoners in the CDCr – while Terry Thornton puts a spin on the situation as an incident between two rival gangs.

In addition, the attack was a flagrant attempt to smut Yogi up as a person with safety concerns, since the unconscious would assume such drivel to be true, destroying Brother Pinell’s historic relevance.

It is without question that there is a lot of sadness and anger simmering as a result of what is obvious use of an agent provocateur proxy attack that could be reasonably explained away by CDCr officials – and serve their desire to re-spark overt hostilities.

The strategy is not lost on men of consciousness who do not just react on feelings and emotions. That reaction is illogical in view of the sound understanding imparted by Sun Tzu relative to knowing the tactics and practices of the imperium – the source of the COINTELPRO policies that have worked so well behind these enemy lines, in our communities and in many other parts of the world to promote social, ethnic and religious or gender strife.

Some may recall that back in March 2015, Brother Steve Martinot wrote an article in the SF Bay View in which he imparted some knowledge about how the CDCr for years, under the aegis of repressive gangs, sought out the politically conscious prisoners they perceived as a threat to their plans – the sort of conscious prisoners who made up the core of the political organization that Comrade George Jackson created – murdering and locking down the spirit and logical minds of those who held the interests of all prisoners dear.

This practice created a vacuum easily filled by agent provocateurs and quislings (people who collaborate with an enemy occupying force), whose motivations are self-aggrandizement or other questionable activities that serve the needs of prisoncrats to justify the cost and expense of maintaining 34-plus prison facilities utilized by the CDCr.

Prisoners of consciousness recognize that a serious wrench was tossed into prisoncrats’ works with the initial nonviolent hunger strike strategy that was followed up by the Agreement to End Hostilities, which has had an effect of changing the face of race and ethnic relations within the CDCr. The Agreement took prisoncrats by surprise since it worked to open the eyes of prisoners who had no inkling of how they were being manipulated into becoming the disorganized STGs (Security Threat Groups, CDCr’s new term for gangs) that serve prisoncrats’ needs.

Brother Martinot did an excellent job of analyzing prisoncratic tactical notions of encouraging the STG mentality that promoted ethnic and racial lines of conflict among prisoner lumpen masses that suited prisoncrats’ needs. More than their professed personal security needs, it provided an opportunistic means by which prisoncrats could selectively target and slam the conscious so as to insert and promote their agent provocateurs and quislings.

While those agents eventually get exposed as being compromised, in some cases they are still accepted as solid by those unconscious prisoners who provide a false sense of security to them because they typically are easily manipulated.

Picklesuits (prison guards in California typically wear green uniforms) customarily use “race” as an instrument of power within these prison confines so as to maintain a semblance of control, which was lost with the End of Hostilties Agreement. The Agreement compelled prisoncrats to try a new tactical plot to re-ignite hostilities and conflicts among prisoners, which sadly included the selective targeting of Brother Hugo (Yogi) Pinell, which the CDCr promotes as rival gang conflict according to their notions.
