Marna Armstead and Chef April Spears shop the Farmers Market for fresh veggies for Auntie April’s Restaurant.

Third Street at Jerrold Street is bustling with a new farmers market that launched May 5. Sponsored by the Merchants of Butchertown and Economic Development on Third (EDoT), the market is open from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. every Saturday at 1605 Jerrold (All Good Pizza).

Bringing more fresh food options into Bayview Hunters Point was the goal of the market. Two local farms are anchoring the market with plans to add more as the growing season becomes abundant.

EatWell Farms out of Dixon, Calif., grows everything they sell. Strawberries are picked the morning of the market. Tender collards, lettuces, onions and peas are plentiful from the woman-owned and -operated farm. Resendiz Farms from Hughson, Calif., brings cherries, apricots and early stone fruit to the market. Plans are to add a honey farmer, nut farmer and apple farmer.

Local vendors are also part of the market. Gratta Wines, located on Third Street, sells freshly pressed olive oil and balsamic vinegar. Bayview Pasta, which will soon have a storefront on Third, offers freshly made pasta as well as stone ground white corn grits and yellow corn polenta.

Local favorite Yvonne’s Southern Sweets sells her famous butter cookies and, some weeks, lemon pies and brownies. Bayview Beans Coffee is a local Bayview resident roasting beans here in the neighborhood and selling by the pound.

Ron Saunders and Chef Eskender Aseged from Radio Africa Kitchen source fresh greens for his restaurant.

Knead Patisserie brings sourdough loaves as well as cinnamon buns and croissants. Flowers are also available from Fox on the Run Flowers.

All Good Pizza opens up at 9 a.m. on Saturdays during the market offering a brunch menu with mimosas and each week serves local coffee from Vasquez Coffee, Tallio Coffee, soon to open on Third Street, or Bayview Beans Coffee.

SNAP/EBT benefits are welcomed in the market and local company Good Eggs will offer a market match up to $10 on SNAP benefit purchases of fruits and vegetables.

Local craft vendors are welcome to sell their wares during market hours and there is never a vendor charge for Bayview Hunters Point residents.

The goal of the market is to outgrow the garden area at All Good Pizza and expand onto Newhall Street.

Bayview Community Farmers Market is open Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 1605 Jerrold St. through October.
