It’s hard to justify holding a man as studious as Damu for so long after the release to general population of most of his comrades from the dreaded Pelican Bay SHU. After 16-plus years of a plightful but solid struggle, I was finally released from Pelikan Bay State Prison’s Security Housing Unit (SHU) on Sept. 28, 2018. I had to endure many obstacles throughout that time that protracted my struggle to get released, but without compromise or displaying feeble characteristics, I was released by the Institutional Classification Committee to the general population 4A facility.

I’ve been on the mainline for a bit over a week now and between you and me, it’s truly a culture shock. It’s gonna take some time to adjust to a lot of this nonsense, seriously.

Good things happen to good people, so I’m simply saying that good, including prosperity, will continue to flow through the Bay View newspaper community.

There will always be those who despise you for your work and productive, solid ethics. They will be few, mostly the powerful and the wealthy. But the dignity and integrity you all stand for and display will soon soften their hearts or make the Black and oppressed masses angry and tired of their ignorance or silly antics.

The people have spoken: We love and respect you. With the San Francisco Bay View newspaper, the survivors of the Security Housing Units such as myself and countless others would not be on these Prison Industrial Slave Complex general population yards.

We are forever in your debt. Those of us who recognize a true friend and advocate of the Prisoner Lives Matter movement, those of us who recognize true Blackness and humanism, productiveness, we recognize you.
