Oakland City Council President Lynette McElhaney has been one of the few fearless voices inside city government who is speaking out about the outrageous and unthinkable sex scandal where more than two dozen officers from law enforcement agencies all around the Bay had sex or inappropriate dealings with a young woman in the sex trade. Some of the officers are alleged to have committed statutory rape, having fornicated with her while she was under age.
I sat down for a five-minute interview with Council President McElhaney to get her thoughts on one of the biggest police scandals to hit Oakland since The Riders case in 2003. Here she is in her own words.
