Civil Rights attorney John Burris to represent the family of Danville police shooting victim Tyrell Wilson

Tyrell-Wilson, Civil Rights attorney John Burris to represent the family of Danville police shooting victim Tyrell Wilson, Local News & Views
Tyrell Wilson was murdered by Danville Police Officer Andrew Hall Thursday, March 11, 2021. Witness testimony contradicts Officer Hall’s claims that Tyrell was holding a knife. This is the second use of deadly force by Officer Hall in the last several years – in 2018, he shot and killed Laudemer Arboleda in Danville without consequence. Laudemer was unarmed and trying to drive away. Both Tyrell and Arboleda were possibly experiencing mental disturbances at the time and would have benefitted from well-trained, community-led crisis intervention.

An independent witness comes forward to dispute the officer’s account of the events leading to Wilson’s shooting

Danville, Calif. – Civil Rights Attorney John Burris has been retained by Tyrell Wilson’s family to investigate the circumstances surrounding his death at the hands of Danville Police Officer Andrew Hall. Tyrell was shot by the officer ostensibly after a foot chase, where the officer believes that Tyrell was throwing rocks from the freeway.

After a brief chase, the officer claims that Tyrell approached him with a knife, and the officer shot him once in the face. Tyrell died March 17 – five days after being shot by Officer Hall.

Tyrell’s parents have reason to believe the officer’s statements are not totally truthful – especially since an independent witness disputes the officer’s account. The witness described a different account of how the incident occurred between Officer Hall and Mr. Wilson.

The Wilsons state that their son has suffered for years with a mental impairment. This is the second use of deadly force by Officer Hall.

The witness stated to a local news reporter that Officer Hall chased Mr. Wilson across the street, then Hall and Mr. Wilson got into an argument, leading Officer Hall to pull out his weapon and shoot Mr. Wilson after Tyrell made a hand gesture toward Officer Hall. The witness to the shooting had never met Officer Hall or Tyrell Wilson and stated that Wilson did not advance on Officer Hall, as reported by the Danville Police Department.

The Wilsons state that their son has suffered for years with a mental impairment. This is the second use of deadly force by Officer Hall. Attorney Burris represents the family and will be suing the officer and the department for civil rights violations for the prior use of deadly force.
