“Activist” Minister King X devotes his life to educating the public through raps, plays, music videos, presentations in schools and colleges and more about the evils of prison, especially for the elders who have been held behind bars for decades. He often focuses on the historic hunger strikes of 2011-2013 that drew 30,000 prisoner participants at their peak and have resulted in an over 30% reduction in the California prison population.

The bill by Assemblymember Tom Ammiano, D-San Francisco, to restore media access to prisoners, AB 1270, passed the California Assembly Jan. 26. The bill would remove restrictions on pre-arranged in-person interviews with specific prison inmates.
