Juneteenth: Is it a celebration? Or is it a continuous fight for our freedom? Are we really free?

It is clear that even though a person may have served their time in prison, release from prison to a halfway house does not provide freedom. One might be “allowed” to work, but may not be allowed the tools, or Constitutional Rights, necessary for the work allowed. The penal system prevails in unrelenting oppressor control and punishment against captive people, our Black and Brown community members.

Join the rally on Sunday, March 7, 12-2 p.m., at 111 Taylor in San Francisco. This is a fight about racism, mass incarceration, private prisons, safety from the COVID-19 pandemic, and the defense of the people’s media.

Prop 16 and Prop 17 give notice that we are taking ownership of our fate. While Prop 16 calls for Afro and Latino Americans to have a fair shot at a level playing field, Prop 17 demands that if you’ve already paid your dues in the criminal justice system, you should also have a voice on election day.

San Francisco – On Wednesday, Feb. 26, 2020, Public Defender Mano Raju, Supervisor Matt Haney, the Adachi family and community supporters of the late San Francisco Public Defender Jeff Adachi unveiled the new name of the street that runs directly behind the San Francisco Public Defender’s Office, “Jeff Adachi Way.” The singular block of Gilbert Street between Bryant and Brannan Streets will not only honor Adachi’s legacy, but also serve as a daily reminder and motivation to all public defenders who walk across the street to the Hall of Justice every day to fight for the rights of their indigent clients and their families.
