Free them all! Rename all jails, prisons and other detention facilities...

Gov. Gavin Newsom can choose to step up to avoid the increasingly popular idea of renaming all the state prisons, jails and detention centers after him. The governor’s failure to respond to the citizens’ demands to use his authority to save lives in the face of the COVID-19 tragic impact on helpless people in cages leaves him fair game for ridicule and deep criticism.

General TACO, embrace accountability for the good of the Black Riders

Comrade TACO, I have been one of your most avid supporters within my organization. But I can no longer associate with you or remain silent. I am asking that you embrace accountability for the good of the Black Riders. To me, accountability means being responsible to myself for my choices and for the consequences of my choices. For me, accountability is an internal skill, not an external process. TACO, nobody can force you to be accountable. And lastly, I will tell you that accountability is a rigorous and difficult process.

Read the perspectives of Spoon Jackson, serving a sentence of Life Without the Possibility of Parole (LWOP), “the other death penalty,” at Lancaster State Prison near Los Angeles, and Tim Young, on San Quentin’s Death Row near San Francisco. Spoon calls LWOP “as hideous as Death Row” and recommends “no” on Prop 62. Tim says vote “yes”: “With LWOP, we live to fight another day.”
