In Bayview Hunters Point, we love our post office and the friendly, convenient service provided there. Horrified when we heard it was on the chopping block, neighborhood folks worked with post office staff signing and distributing petitions and speaking out at meetings. Now we can celebrate victory!

We must protest this latest attack on the Bayview Post Office. The post office must be flooded with letters and calls to the San Francisco Postmaster’s Office, (415) 550-5001. All political leaders must be made aware that this community is not passive or unaware of our rights.

Congress’ right wing is on a rampage, and the U.S. Postal Service – beginning with post offices in poor neighborhoods and rural towns – are on the chopping block. One of them, the humble Bayview Post Office on Lane Street in Bayview Hunters Point, has become the poster child for what’s shaping up to be an epic battle against privatization of fundamental public services.
