Our goal

Maffé tiga (peanut butter stew) is a popular West African dish served with rice. Many people believe this dish is very powerful.

We believe that film is a powerful medium that can be used to communicate social injustices and to articulate relevant issues of life and relationships in under-served or unacknowledged communities. Our goal is to tell a beautiful story and make the best short film we can make with the resources available to us. With your help, “Maffé Tiga” (“Peanut Butter Stew”) will be an artistic, high quality production that is engaging and accessible to both film connoisseurs and mainstream media markets.

How we shot the film

Caramel-Cappuccino-Films-Mohamed-Stephanie, ‘Maffé Tiga’ (‘Peanut Butter Stew’): Help a young African filmmaker finish his production!, Culture Currents We shot on a Canon 5D over three days in Los Angeles in mid-March 2011. We used a crew composed of dedicated film school students and alumni and our friends. We had a great director of photography and some great actors. When the film is finished, we plan to submit it to as many film festivals as possible all around the world.

What the money is for and how we will reward you for your help

Your contributions will help us edit the film, get professional sound mix and sound design, color correction and an original musical score. If you help us raise more than our minimum $2,300 goal, the rest of the money will go to film festival submission fees and publicist fees for the film.

Anyone who pledged to help with the production of the film and pledges again to help with post production will get a special gift on top of the rewards based on the level of contribution. Any small donation would really help.

Meet the filmmaker

Mohamed-Dione, ‘Maffé Tiga’ (‘Peanut Butter Stew’): Help a young African filmmaker finish his production!, Culture Currents Mohamed Dione III (SAG/AFTRA) was born in Saudi Arabia. He is of Guinean and Senegalese descent. His father is a Guinean diplomat and his mother is an entrepreneur specializing in promotion and African fashion.

Before reaching high school, the actor-model had already seen a great deal of the world. He came to the United States in 1993 when his father was appointed to the Guinean mission in New York City. While performing in plays in elementary school on Roosevelt Island, he realized that acting was his true passion. He began auditioning for projects while in high school. But playing basketball and football, being class president for three consecutive terms, prom king and carrying a heavy academic load left him with little time to follow his heart. He graduated from Yonkers International Baccalaureate High School in 2004.

He has since been featured in plays, TV shows, commercials, music videos, student films, independent films and feature films. Some of his credits are “Law & Order: Criminal Intent,” “Across the Universe,” “Notorious,” the upcoming “Restless City,” premiering at the 2011 Sundance Film Festival, and several commercials. He is a graduate of the All Stars Project, Youth Onstage and Castillo Theater youth development acting programs.

Momo was a member of the original cast and co-author of the All Stars Projects’ original production of “Our City.” He’s also posed for paintings by Afro-American painter Kehinde Wiley. He co-owns a T-shirt company, Axiologytees.com, as well as Caramel Cappuccino Films, a production company that writes films that articulate relevant issues of life and relationship in underserved or under-acknowledged communities with aims of producing them. He enjoys horseback riding, opera, Congolese soukous, sports and anything that has to do with cinema. Dione is constantly auditioning and working on new projects in search of the role that will allow him to make his mark in the Hollywood and Broadway markets … and then the world.
