The executive director of the food bank in Crescent City, where Pelican Bay State Prison is located, has asked that the Bay View retract this announcement. In a message to the organizers of a donation drive for prisoners in solitary confinement and their families to donate money to the food bank during the hunger strike as a compassionate gesture, he writes:
“I was not properly informed of your group’s effort to make contributions to our food bank. RHS does not participate in public relations or political advocacy on behalf of any groups whatsoever. Therefore, I am sorry to inform you that we will not be able to accept contributions from the families you represent.
“Please ensure that a retraction is printed in the San Francisco Bay View paper.
“Thank you for your understanding.
