Greenaction seeks to hire a full time Community Air Monitoring Project Coordinator/Environmental Justice Community Organizer for our work in Bayview Hunters Point, San Francisco, California. Based in our San Francisco office, s/he will work with Greenaction staff, community partner organizations, and technical assistance providers to launch, conduct and coordinate our new Bayview Hunters Point (BVHP) Community Air Monitoring project, and co-coordinate our BVHP Environmental Justice Response Task Force.

 Job responsibilities:

  • Coordinate our new BVHP Community Air Monitoring Project
  • Work with community partner organizations and technical assistance providers to carry out the Air Monitoring project
  • Coordinate and convene a Community Advisory Group that will meet monthly
  • Work with our community partners to civically engage California Air Resources Board and Bay Area Air Quality Management District on air quality issues including Community Air Monitoring programs
  • Grant management – work with our staff to manage the Air Monitoring project grant
  • Co-coordinate our ongoing BVHP Environmental Justice Response Task Force, a multi-stakeholder problem solving collaborative effort that brings together residents, community and environmental justice groups, businesses and local, regional, state and federal agencies to reduce pollution and improve government and industry responsiveness to community concerns on pollution problems. The task force has monthly meetings and a website (www.bvhp-ivan.org) that enables residents to quickly file pollution complaints online.
  • Work with Greenaction staff and technical assistance providers to produce multilingual fact sheets on air quality environmental justice issues
  • Conduct community education & outreach on air quality, the Air Monitoring project, and EJ Task Force
  • Manage and work with community outreach workers, interns and volunteers on these campaigns
  • Publicize our work and projects via social media and mainstream media
  • Participate in regional and statewide trainings on community air monitoring efforts

   Qualifications:

  • At least two years of community organizing or equivalent experience
  • Management skills to oversee the project scope, track activities, coordinate with project partners, task assignment and delivery, budget tracking, reporting
  • Leadership skills and ability to work with diverse residents, organizations, and government agencies
  • Highly motivated and committed to social and environmental justice
  • Strong computer, social media, writing and speaking skills
  • Ability to work in fast-paced environment
  • Willing to work some evenings and weekends
  • Bilingual (English and either Spanish or Chinese) a strong plus

Salary: $50,000, plus benefits including medical insurance and 3 weeks paid vacation.
