This is the powerful mural painted by Josue Rojas and his friends Frisko, Siez, Kise, Panal, Camer1 and Spirit. The artist “Frisko” splashed his name across the mural. The error – attributing the mural to the wrong artist – was not made by Javier Zarnowiecki, who wrote the story and took the photo; it was made by Mary Ratcliff in the editing process. Mary sincerely apologizes. – Photo: Javier Zarnowiecki

The SF Bay View newspaper always aims to tell the truth. When a reader finds an error, we’ll gladly correct it. Josue Rojas found an error, and we thank him for reporting it to us. Here’s what he wrote:

“I grew up on your paper … and have always loved what you do!

“As an artist in the community and a former journalist, I can’t abide wrong information being out in the world without saying something.

“I just wanted to bring to your attention that the SF Bay View paper gave credit to the wrong person for this artwork on Page 6 of the August issue. (See ‘Sorce – Bay Area graffiti artist reclaims space.’)

“It says in your article that ‘SORCE’ did this mural (featuring the Bay View paper header), and that was untrue. No one named ‘SORCE’ has participated on this.

“I, Josue Rojas, coordinated and organized this mural with friends Frisko, Siez, Kise, Panal, Camer1 and Spirit. The detail in question is by myself and an artist named “Frisko.”

“It says it on there: ‘Frisko.’”
