The Community MedicoLegal Defense Fund for Environmental Justice creates a dedicated fund for environmental health referral services provided to exposed residents and workers within the one mile perimeter of the Hunters Point Naval Shipyard federal Superfund system and adjoining industries concentrated within the south central Bayview Hunters Point environmental justice (EJ) impacted coastal community.

Hunters Point Community Biomonitoring Program

The Hunters Point Biomonitoring Program launched in January of 2019 as the nation’s first community based human biomonitoring program established to offer residents and workers within the one mile perimeter of a system of federal Superfund sites located in Southeast San Francisco access to toxic exposure screenings capable of detecting up to 35 toxicants – including radioactive and cancer causing heavy metals.

HP Biomonitoring has been flooded by requests for urinary testing, toxicological referrals and referrals to legal services capable of handling toxic tort clients and class action lawsuits. HP Biomonitoring can no longer offer charity services to exposed high risk, low income residents and workers seeking the medical care and legal advocacy they are entitled to.

Federal and state lawsuits are advancing this year, and a major class action community lawsuit is slated for trial in 2026. HP Biomonitoring is seeking community wide financial support to build a medicolegal defense fund for environmental justice.
