“My life changed forever when I met Hugo Chávez,” Prensa Latina reported in a 2023 story on Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro describing his 30-year close friendship with his predecessor. “An extraordinary man, deeply human, noble and brave, with determination, ideals of justice and freedom,” he said of Chávez, who “became a second father, an example, a guide and a teacher.”
Eighth Annual Citgo-Venezuela Heating Oil Program launched
On Jan. 31 CITGO Petroleum Corp. President and CEO Alejandro Granado and Citizens Energy Corp. Chairman Joseph P. Kennedy II launched the eighth annual CITGO-Venezuela Heating Oil Program with the first heating oil delivery of this winter’s initiative. The program has become a humanitarian symbol of unity between the people of Venezuela and those in need in the United States.
Venezuela rushes aid to Haiti
In Venezuela, solidarity with Haiti is based on humanistic and historical reasons. Haiti played an important role in Venezuela’s battle for independence, and as the world’s first Black republic it served as an inspiration to Venezuelan patriots. Since the earthquake, Venezuela has rushed tons of food, tents and fuel to Haiti and forgiven all debts.
