Some 32,000 San Francisco households are behind on rent – and more are behind on mortgage payments. Mass eviction and foreclosure would effectively level our neighborhoods. Entire demographics could get swept off the map completely.

This election has led to a crossroads and COVID-19 has highlighted that our choices can lead to suffering or liberation. By reflecting on the journeys of some of those who have gone before like Harriet Tubman, Dr. Martin and Coretta King, Elijah and Clara Muhammad and recently, Colin Kaepernick, we can take our own journey and vote because it matters.

State Sen. Scott Wiener’s re-election website recently posted a Green New Deal pledge, including a vow not to accept contributions over $200 from oil, gas and coal industry executives, lobbyists or PACs. However, according to filing reports with the California Secretary of State’s office, Wiener has accepted over $23,000 in campaign contributions above $200 from the fossil fuel industry, including corporations such as PG&E, Southern California Edison, Calpine Corp., and Sempra Energy. An independent expenditure supporting Scott Wiener has also accepted $170,000 in donations from fossil fuel corporations including Chevron, Southern California Edison and Sempra Energy.

Our best chance at a bright future is Bernie Sanders​. We need the courage to vote​ for the best world possible, for the biggest dreams, for the biggest potential shift in government and politics.

With the Northern California wildfires still raging and San Francisco streets deserted as everyone is told to take shelter, homeless people in the City have no shelter from air quality labeled the worst in the world. Yet during this smoke-created public health crisis, early every morning, thousands of homeless adults and dozens of homeless families are forced out of their shelters to spend the day in long lines outdoors waiting for a shelter bed for the night.
