With stories so deeply compelling and told at great risk of retaliation, another of our caged community members describes the deliberate indifference to the safety of prisoners during COVID-19 in CSP-Solano prison, with no protocol, no common sense, no humanity, no recourse. Taxpayer dollars support this shame.

Read the perspectives of Spoon Jackson, serving a sentence of Life Without the Possibility of Parole (LWOP), “the other death penalty,” at Lancaster State Prison near Los Angeles, and Tim Young, on San Quentin’s Death Row near San Francisco. Spoon calls LWOP “as hideous as Death Row” and recommends “no” on Prop 62. Tim says vote “yes”: “With LWOP, we live to fight another day.”

The call for racial peace came from Pelican Bay SHU – the hole. It was a brave, human and needed call for racial harmony. Since I’m a believer in peace and realness – one people, one race – I must echo their cry and add my voice to the chorus. I think it is a call all peace groups around the world, inside and outside of prisons, would welcome.

“I cannot go on / but I will go on - / on and on even when / on becomes off,” writes Spoon Jackson, the well known writer serving a sentence of life without the possibility of parole, the “other death penalty” that will become the fate of all death row prisoners if Prop 34 passes. Spoon and most death row prisoners are adamantly opposed.
