The Black census counts too

Getting counted in the census might seem trivial, especially when faced with systemic obstacles, financial instability and the lack of essential resources. In the Black community, there is more to getting counted than it seems: the question of why Black people should get counted travels deep through generations dating back to the 1700s.

Census 2020: Overcoming barriers to being counted

Many residents of the Bayview, Tenderloin and Mission report not being counted in the census, some because they didn’t have time or had a fear of the Census Bureau not upholding privacy rules. Some have language barriers, and for many, their address changes frequently.
