Black August was especially impactful this year supercharged by First Secretary Sulia Paez and Second Secretary Gabriela Castillo of the Cuban Embassy visiting Oakland and San Francisco , speaking about the impact of U.S. blockades on Cuba. The Bay Area tour included events with local activists, artists and community organizations.

The United States has not been able to control COVID-19. The Donald Trump administration did not react in time, played down the reality, and as a result tens of thousands of people have died. Yet the government finds time to attack Cuba.

On Aug. 8, 1978, the Move Organization’s headquarters was attacked in a pre-dawn raid by several hundred Philadelphia cops and officials. Move members were charged for the assault and are still languishing in prison. The issue is not what the parole board will “decide”; the real issue is what the people will allow.
