“The shooting was outrageous in that Tindle was shot in cold blood with his back to the officer while attempting to surrender,” said civil rights attorney John Burris after the $6 million-plus jury verdict was announced. BART Officer Joseph Mateu had fired three shots into Tindle’s back within seconds after arriving on the scene.

Sahleem Tindle’s family demands BART killer cop be charged with murder

Community members and family of Sahleem Tindle, a 28-year-old father of two, killed by a BART Police officer in January, packed a BART meeting March 12 to demand that justice be served. Tindle’s family passionately protested the lack of action by BART following Tindle’s death on Jan. 3 outside the West Oakland BART Station. Tindle’s family and legal team are calling for the city of Oakland to arrest and charge the involved BART officer, Joseph Mateu, with murder.

It is amazing how time flies whether one is moving or standing still. One looks up and sees, suddenly it seems, friends celebrating 70 and 75 or 80 or even 90-plus milestones. Wow! What a blessing that is. Blackout Collective obstructs BART trains on Black Friday in protest of...

On so-called Black Friday, the biggest shopping day of the year in the U.S., members of the Blackout Collective and their allies obstructed BART trains on both sides of the track from moving out of the West Oakland BART station in an economic protest to the systemic wanton killing of Black people in this country, most recently symbolized by the police murders of Mike Brown and Eric Garner.
