SFUSD in collaboration with the San Francisco Alliance of Black School Educators will host the Fifth Annual Historical Black College and University (HBCU) Fair on Monday, Sept. 11, 2017, at Mission High School from 4:00-7:30 p.m.

U-CAN President Alan H. Rowe says about last year’s fair that it drew a large number of students and parents districtwide. “The College Fair was an overwhelming success with many students receiving on-the-spot admissions and scholarship offers.” Barbara Evans, program administrator, anticipates this year’s fair will draw another large number of participants.

Official representatives from 35-40 of the country’s leading Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) will be recruiting college-bound students on-site during the event. Interested high school students will have the opportunity to receive preliminary “on-the-spot” admissions, scholarships, financial aid information and face-to-face exposure with many of the most respected historically Black institutions of higher learning within the United States.

A partial list of participating colleges includes Alcorn State University, Bennett College, Benedict College, Bethune-Cookman University, Clark Atlanta University, Dillard University, Fisk University, Florida A&M State University, Grambling State University, Hampton University, Howard University, Langston University, Lincoln University, Livingstone College, Miles College, Morgan State University, Savannah State University, Shaw University, Spelman College, Stillman College, Talladega College, Tougaloo College, Texas Southern University, Tuskegee University, Virginia State University, Wilberforce University, Wiley College and Xavier University of Louisiana, among many other colleges and universities. Our college fair event is free and open to all students of SFUSD.

All high school students and their parents will benefit from this annual college planning event and opportunity. This event is open to all students in SFUSD.

Our district counseling staff are eager and ready to make sure that our counselors have access to the necessary tools and documents to assist the students on their caseload to apply to at least five colleges and/or universities.
