San Francisco got all their ducks in a row for the great gentrification when the Navy vacated the Treasure Island base. While I live in the most expensive city in the US, well probably the most expensive in the world, I live on next to nothing on Treasure Island.

South Carolina’s prison system has reached a breaking point, and right now it is breaking the minds, bodies and spirits of human beings.

“Patriarchy,” the zine stated further, “is a system of entitlement that rewards behavior that is anti-woman.”

Prisons are both an economic project and a counterinsurgency program. Their neverending goal is to continue “locking people up who are trying to be free.” And a reoccurring theme and recognition of the discussion was that “we can’t destroy prisons without destroying capitalism.”

With growing national alarm over the health and environmental threat of toxic chemicals in natural gas drilling, five members of Congress are reintroducing bills to repeal the exemption of hydraulic fracturing, or “fracking,” from the Safe Drinking Water Act.

“How can you trust a criminal to preside over their own trial? We already know that the people who are supposed to be watching out for the health and safety of the community are paid contractors with the Lennar Corp."

We won’t stir up toxic dust as Lennar has that measurably poisons our children. We know the Shipyard is still not fit for human habitation. We’re not stupid.

Sen. Mark Leno's Senate Bill 792 would give clean parkland at Candlestick Point to Lennar and replace it with toxic land. Lennar, the "toxic dust developer," plans to build 10,000 luxury condos at the Hunters Point Shipyard. This toxic trade bill is now in the California Assembly, so calls opposing SB 792 should be made immediately to Fiona Ma, (916) 319-2012, and Tom Ammiano, (916) 319-2013.

The United States Navy has spent over $600 million trying to clean up the Hunters Point Naval Shipyard. Most of the money was wasted - more then $300 million by International Technologies - with little supervision by the United States Navy Base Closure Team in past years.

Like a colossal ship navigating through the uncharted ocean of financial uncertainty, the Miami homebuilder Lennar Corp. is a “sinking Titanic.”

Lennar has used its multi-million dollar profits to buy off community groups, pay community residents as “consultants” and sell a set of wolf tickets that would have shamed even the wolf himself.

Newsom and his political allies are backing the Proposition G transfer of City property to a private developer in what is likely the worst public-private partnership the Newsom administration has dreamed up.

Despite Lennar's promises to clean up toxics at this site, environmentalists point to the text of Propsition G, which states that “the final development plan for this Project Site may be materially different from the Project."

For over a year, Lennar polluted the Bayview with dangerous levels of asbestos particulate, churning poisonous dust clouds over community homes, schools and churches.

Prop G is not about development – it’s about land banking for the future. Lennar will sell off its affordable housing obligations to nonprofits, then hold out to maximize its return.

Short term exposures to particles can, within hours or days, aggravate lung disease, cause asthma attacks and acute bronchitis and increase susceptibility to respiratory infections.
