The distance learning experiment is on. Black August 2020 will be the first school year in history when public education in the United States went completely digital. Parents are learning to monitor their youth for five to six hours a day while they complete assignments and learn lessons entirely on video screens, while local governments continue to unfold the new system.

Stop the fires with underground lines and public power

Gov. Newsom’s condemnation of PG&E rings hypocritical, as he is the recipient of more than $200,000 in campaign contributions from the company. Moreover, Newsom wants to remove legal liability standards for electrical utilities and has created a $26 billion wildfire liability bailout fund.

View from the Shipyard

One photo in particular caught my attention. It’s simplicity and composition stand out when viewed from the eye of the photographer…a man dedicated to his work and loyal to his purpose as a longshore worker. Taken in the mid 1960’s, it depicts an isolated freighter ship offshore from a pier at the Hunters Point Shipyard. I call it “View from the Shipyard.” I don’t know why that cargo ship was so important it became the centerpiece of a technicolor photo. My Dad was probably the shipping clerk responsible for accounting its cargo.
