Uganda still won’t hang the gays, but it’s about to drill...

Uganda’s Parliament failed to pass the infamous Anti-Homosexuality Bill, otherwise known as the Hang-the-Gays Bill, in December. However, Uganda’s Parliament did pass the Petroleum Exploration, Development and Production Bill, regarding the exploitation of vast oil reserves in Lake Albert, on Uganda’s western border with the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

Uganda: Hang the gays or hang the demonstrators?

It doesn’t look as though Uganda is going to “hang the gays,” at least not now. But they may hang some pro-democracy activists for organizing peaceful protests against Uganda’s soaring food and fuel prices. They've been charged with terrorism and could get the death penalty.

The anti-homosexual bill has, for better or worse, drawn Uganda into the midst of U.S. culture wars, and Ugandan human rights activists are unconvinced that the sudden attention has anything to do with genuine concern for Ugandans or their rights.

Respect the rights of all Ugandans, including LGBTI Ugandans

This is time for the gay movement around the world to make common cause with the average citizen of Uganda to decry the abuse of human rights of ALL Ugandans. Do not separate the two issues.
