Assange put corporate states and their armies on notice that they can no longer operate in secret. And the US, with the help of its state-corporate press, put him on notice that they’re coming to get him and that anyone else publishing classified docs could be next.
Though we have witnessed our leaders and family members being killed, tortured and brutalized as they fought for their civil liberties, we cannot give up the fight by not voting. People have died so you could do so. Of the 16 running mates for mayor, only Public Defender Jeff Adachi has placed his money where his mouth is.
People say, “I’m not into politics.” Well, I say you may not be into politics, but politics is into YOU! People say, “They’re all a bunch of crooks, and I say to hell with them!” But I say, all these positions that exist will be filled by SOMEBODY! The question is: Who will those somebodies be, and what will they do?
Whose community do you really want it to be? Right now, Bayview sits on the brink of change – destruction for some, destiny for many. I am fairly new to voting like most people my age and it seems like there’s no point. The sad reality is that in BVHP of the 30,000 people who could vote, only about 4,000 people actually vote. How can 4,000 votes be split among 16 Black D10 candidates? Who should stand down so we can put someone in office that looks like me and will stand on the side of the community?
If enough listeners become subscribers, and vote in the election, it’s possible that “people power” will overcome “money power” and elect an LSB majority that isn’t wedded to the status quo. The Bay Area deserves a KPFA that innovates. For example, isn’t it about time for a program for the Black community, a program for the LGBT community and a program about California’s injustice system? And KPFA workers, paid and unpaid, deserve management that respects them and the listener community.
