“Where is the humanity in that?” asks Nube Brown who pulls the lens in tight on the inhumane policies of the Prison Industrial Slave Complex perpetrated on all human beings suffering prison atrocities of torture, dehumanization, exploitation, extraction, starvation, death by health neglect and physical abuse, while making billions off the backs of those they hold captive.

Under contract with San Francisco, the historic Compton’s Cafeteria, now signed as 111 Taylor St. Apartments, has been operating as a private prison aka halfway house run by the multi-billion-dollar multinational corporation GEO Group, which like the ICE detention centers GEO runs, has been infested with COVID-19 due to deliberate indifference to the wellbeing of those under their thumb.

Alabama Department of Corrections is the “worst of the worst” of present day criminal capitalist slave plantations and they have this week attempted to murder prisoner leader Kinetic Justice to silence his constant exposure of the ADOC’s inhumane brutality of those in its “care.” As a society, we must speak our outrage, or be utterly shamed.

It’s winter and yet DA Chesa Boudin is making lemonade for the people from the lemons we’ve been puckering on for too long by immediately launching the new Community Liaisons program, a team for each district highlighting more emphasis on the voices of residents in the historically biased prosecutorial environment.

The appetite of capitalism demands every dollar be extracted from the resource object, in this case, your new community advocate and editor of the SF Bay View Newspaper, Malik Washington, is the commodity, the enemy and still a prisoner in the grip of the multi-billion dollar GEO Group that runs the Taylor Center halfway house/private prison in the Tenderloin. A vibrant breeze is felt amidst the chaos of political blustering, posturing, hating, violating and destroying. With the power of love and commitment to caring about the people in our communities, Sheryl Davis, Director of the Human Rights Commission, is solidly on the ground in tandem with Mayor London Breed, Supervisor Walton and others to create the possible dream.

Increasingly, we hear the stories of formerly incarcerated people who lived young lives unsupported and often traumatized, followed by abusive incarceration with stigmatizing labels. We also learn more about returning community members successfully dedicating their lives to giving others what they never had. This is such a story.

Light, hope, COVID-19 testing and new winter coats to warm cold community members are the Christmas version during a brutal pandemic of the ongoing love shared by Gwendolyn Westbrook, Mother Brown’s, the Curtis Family C-Notes and so many others from both in and outside the Bayview neighborhood.

The Black Employee Alliance has been calling on our sisters and brothers to report this ongoing racism, but City employees of color are afraid of losing their jobs. This is an exceptionally dangerous time in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic and I think racist supervisors like Mitchell Griggs know this and use it to their advantage.

The Bayview Hunters Point community came together in person for an open discussion following the deaths of Lamar “Chi-Chi” Williams and Demarree Hampton, exploring the path they are going to take in their precious diversity to create healing, building and commitment to the thrival of their community.
