We are writing in support of Mr. Romaine Fitzgerald’s (B-27527) petition for release. He is now 70 years old and has been incarcerated for over 50 years. He has demonstrated deep remorse for his actions and is no longer the person that he was a half a century ago. In the interest of justice, I entreat you to grant his release.

San Francisco – On Wednesday, Feb. 26, 2020, Public Defender Mano Raju, Supervisor Matt Haney, the Adachi family and community supporters of the late San Francisco Public Defender Jeff Adachi unveiled the new name of the street that runs directly behind the San Francisco Public Defender’s Office, “Jeff Adachi Way.” The singular block of Gilbert Street between Bryant and Brannan Streets will not only honor Adachi’s legacy, but also serve as a daily reminder and motivation to all public defenders who walk across the street to the Hall of Justice every day to fight for the rights of their indigent clients and their families.

This is our hood, Bayview Hunters Point, once known as the fiercest in the Bay, the Black heartland of San Francisco. In a city that was 17 percent Black a few years ago, is the population really down to 3 percent? Where are they, our neighbors who are afraid to be counted in the Census? WE NEED YOU TO BE COUNTED!

More than 163 million cats and dogs currently make their homes in backyards and living rooms across America. That adds up to a lot of dug-up flower beds, vet bills and ruined upholstery. It also adds up to a lot of happiness.

No one on the left was more critical of Bernie Sanders during his 2016 presidential run than late Black Agenda Report Editor Bruce Dixon. However, after Bernie’s speech announcing that he planned to run again this year, Bruce asked me, “Did you see that?” I said, “No, not yet.” Then he said, “This is a whole new Bernie. Bernie 2.0. This is a Bernie who’s learned how to talk to Black people.”

Adante Pointer Esq. is one of the legal warriors fighting the people’s fight for a long time in the streets and courtrooms of the Bay Area. I became aware of him during the Oscar Grant movement in 2009-2010. I remember he would be flanking John Burris, the Bay Area’s Johnnie Cochran in the courtroom, and at press conferences he would help explain the “legalese” to the media and public so people could understand what exactly happened in the courtroom.

Why is the United States the number one jailer of all time? Because the U.S. judicial system is the most corrupt in world history! The founders are struggling to get out of their graves so they can put these tyrants in theirs. No system in the world incarcerates more people without constitutional authority than the United States.

Imagine applying for a job online. But instead of a hiring manager or some pre-screening software reviewing your application and pushing it along – or eliminating it – based on personal biases or other random criteria a company sets up, a smart computer program that is “agnostic” does the filtering, determining whether you are a good fit for the job or not.

San Francisco – Mayor London N. Breed today celebrated the signing of San Francisco’s Right to Return Ordinance. She was joined by Supervisor Shamann Walton, Hope SF leadership and residents, and community members at Hope SF’s Potrero Hill housing development. The ordinance was sponsored by Mayor Breed, Supervisor Walton and the other members of the Board of Supervisors. The ordinance went into effect Jan. 19, 2020.

Sir Jules Haywood, minister of music at Third Baptist Church for 32 years, died on Jan. 20, 2020, at the age of 95. Funeral services were held on Feb. 11, at Third Baptist Church in San Francisco.

Now running as the presumptive frontrunner in the Democratic presidential primary, Sen. Bernie Sanders on Monday morning, Feb. 24, unveiled a sweeping new proposal that would guarantee high-quality child care and then pre-kindergarten education to every child – regardless of income or status – in the United States.

State Sen. Scott Wiener’s re-election website recently posted a Green New Deal pledge, including a vow not to accept contributions over $200 from oil, gas and coal industry executives, lobbyists or PACs. However, according to filing reports with the California Secretary of State’s office, Wiener has accepted over $23,000 in campaign contributions above $200 from the fossil fuel industry, including corporations such as PG&E, Southern California Edison, Calpine Corp., and Sempra Energy. An independent expenditure supporting Scott Wiener has also accepted $170,000 in donations from fossil fuel corporations including Chevron, Southern California Edison and Sempra Energy.

The time is now to support the strongest candidate to beat Trump. The time is now to build power and dignity for Black, Brown and working people. Please join me in voting March 3rd and helping to elect President Bernie Sanders.
